The Ice Moves for No One
I am fortunate enough to work with Meagan Friedman as my editor for the Duskingr Saga. So far, we have finished the first novel in a trilogy and are in the developmental edits of a companion novella.

I am still an early career writer but sell my work on the professional market in various genres. Through that and my debut novella, I have worked with eight excellent editors. I sent out my first amateur query in 2013 and Meagan is the editor I dreamed of working with since that day.

Meagan has a keen eye for storytelling and character/thematic arcs, often spotting inconsistencies or weak points I wouldn’t even think to look for. Her methods preserve the vision of the author while strengthening plot, character, theme, and execution. I write with music and vibes, and Meagan is so skilled at prompting me to explore more of A, maybe remove B, and ask: was C really what I was going for?

One of Meagan’s greatest strengths is her ability to guide the author toward a stronger book while maintaining the author’s voice, vision, and vibes. She dissects and restructures without cutting off the lifeblood of a project in any way. I hand over my work with full confidence, knowing it will be so much better on the other side.

Manuscripts need developmental edits to be the best work they can be. Books don’t happen in a vacuum; they take a tribe. If you are looking to bring out the best in your book, to help it reach its potential, I cannot recommend anyone more highly. Truly, Meagan makes the story shine.
Beyond the Border Forest
I work with Meagan Friedman as my editor for my fantasy series, The Immortal Seasons Cycle. We have currently finished the first book in the series and are beginning work on the second.

While this will be my first novel published, I have had poetry, creative nonfiction, and prose published in literary journals. This has given me the chance to work with editors at a variety of small presses. I can easily say that Meagan is the most attentive, personable editor I have worked with.

She takes the time to fully understand the story and precisely pinpoint where there are issues. She respectfully provides suggestions and edits and doesn’t mind explaining the reasoning behind them. The book is now stronger than it has ever been, and I feel so much more confident about publication thanks to her help.

If you (like me) struggle to know what the issues are in your manuscript or struggle to see the bigger picture, then I strongly suggest working with Meagan as your developmental editor. She has a wealth of expertise and knowledge that can help any book become the strongest version of itself.

The Keepers
Meagan is the best editor I could ask to work with on my literary fantasy series, the Turners saga. In edits for book one, The Keepers, we developed a strong working rhythm that evolved quickly into the best deep dive editing process I've ever experienced. Her eye for detail, story and character consistency, and what worked versus what could work better all helped draw out a much stronger manuscript. She is clear with both communication and expectations, and is fantastic at making sure the author's voice and intentions come across first and foremost.
Working with Meagan is a genuine pleasure as both an author and a person. I enjoy every step of the process. Even when we have to "kill my darlings" she makes what could be (and has in the past been) a grueling process a delight. I've never left an email or call with Meagan feeling disheartened; she is invigorating as an editor, and I find myself excited to tackle any suggestions because I know it will only make my work stronger. She has an uncanny ability to pull me out of my own head and help my words make sense to people who aren't me.
I've had the amazing fortune to work with great editors in my career. Meagan is among the best of the best I've ever had the joy of working with, and I cannot recommend her highly enough.
